Indian Head massage training

Course Summary

This course provides an overview of the benefits and purpose of Indian Head Massage. Included are history, set up, contraindications, proper draping and body mechanics, care and cleaning of the equipment. Participants will learn the preparation and implementation of the treatment. Practice of the techniques of the Indian Head Massage is included.

Learning Objectives

At this end of this training, participants will be able to...

  1. Describe the benefits and of using Indian Head Massage for practitioners and clients.
  2. Describe the indications and contraindications involved in safely providing the service.
  3. Summarize the effects of scalp massage on the body.
  4. Demonstrate the set up and cleaning up of materials and equipment.
  5. Perform a 45-minute Indian head massage protocol using a variety of shapes and sizes of stones for optimal flow during a session.

45-minute demonstration

75-minute practicing technique, exchanging services,

Materials you will need to bring:  

One massage table, face cradle and bolster for every two students (we will help coordinate training partners)

Linens - one bottom sheet, one top sheet and two pillow cases

Blanket optional

Massage medium will be provided

Karen Littlejohn

With nearly a decade of experience in the beauty industry, Karen Littlejohn brings both expertise and passion to her role as an instructor. Throughout her career as a licensed esthetician, Karen has honed her skills in waxing, skin treatments, and, most notably, in her specialty of facial, hand, and arm massage. She understands that estheticians are not only responsible for the skin but also for the comfort and confidence of their clients. This belief drives her commitment to teaching the importance of caring for every part of the body that needs attention.


Karen’s approach to esthetics goes beyond simply teaching techniques; she is dedicated to fostering an environment where students can learn to appreciate the intricate needs of the skin and the therapeutic benefits of massage. As an educator, Karen is passionate about empowering the next generation of estheticians and massage therapists, helping them develop the skills and knowledge necessary to guide clients in achieving their treatment goals. Her goal is to inspire students to not only master techniques but also to cultivate a deep understanding of the impact massage and skin treatments have on overall well-being.
