swedish massage Basics training

Course Summary

This course provides anatomical and technical knowledge 

to increase practitioners' comfort & skill with Swedish techniques. The history, contraindications and benefits of Swedish massage are discussed. Participants will practice body mechanics that support their longevity and prevent injury. Practice with intake & exit consultations, as well as SOAP notes, is included.

Learning Objectives

At this end of this training, participants will be able to...

 

  1. Summarize the therapeutic effects and benefits of a full body Swedish massage. 
  2. Identify general contraindications for Swedish massage. 
  3. Evaluate their body mechanics to increase their longevity in the field and avoid injury.
  4. Compose concise SOAP notes from the intake & exit consultations and session details.
  5. Develop a 60 and 90 minute full body treatment plan using a variety of techniques.

Class Format

90-minute classroom study

90-minute demonstration

One-hour lunch break

2.5-hours practicing technique, exchanging services, 

30-min review & course evaluation

meet the instructor

Theresa "Reese" Warren

Originally a St. Louis native, Reese attended Body Therapy Institute, a premier massage therapy program outside of Chapel Hill, NC. After graduating in 2009, she joined the faculty of BTI until its closure in 2016. She was then named the Director of Education at Carolina Massage Institute where she was also an instructor. She is delighted to return to the south city neighborhoods she calls home. Skilled in a variety of modalities, her specialty is myofascial structural integration and movement repatterning for active adults, athletes and chronic pain sufferers. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, camping, and kayaking.
